13 Going on 30

13 Going on 30 is a lovely, earnest, and feel-good rom-com, where a 13-year-old girl, Jenna Rink, wishes to become a 30-year-old woman. And then, one morning she does find herself in her “30, flirty, and thriving” era! Feels unreal right? But well yeah, the movie is all about her finding herself in her 30s. That’s it. No, I am lying, there is so much more to it. wink wink.

Wonderfully directed by Gary Winick in 2004, where the story orbits around the themes of love, friendship, acceptance, and self-discovery with a bag full of humor. The movie starts in 1987, where we see Jennifer Garner aka Jenna Rink who is not so cool with her age and everything that comes with it, that is, insecurities and uncertainties (hence the urge to become a woman in her thirties). Her dream was to look cool, be in the cool kid’s group “Six Chicks”, and be like the models from the fictional magazine “Poise”. The typical thoughts of all teenagers, I guess- to be cool, look cool, and be seen as a cool kid everywhere, every time so that they can feel accepted and belong by people around.

The movie explores, and talks about the nostalgia and the longing for simpler times, simpler things, and lovely people. When one morning she finds herself a fully grown woman, where she no longer has to wish to become popular and cool, she enjoys, and loves that time of her life, until she realizes that, she did miss a lot of things in the process of becoming this cool. It cost her a lot of things though, from forgetting the friendship with her childhood friend, Mark Ruffalo aka Matt to losing her relationship with parents. From wishing to be 30 to wanting back to become 13 so that she could make things right with and for the people she cared for. The chemistry between the characters felt so real, and beautiful. I love the character of Mark though, he is too charming aaaa-

Also, take a pause, let’s not overlook the soundtrack – it’s like a collection of sarees made by your older sibling, who knows a lot about aesthetics, which is filled with catchy ornaments that transport you back to the 90s.

I so love the storyline, it is simple and innocent and hits absolutely in the right places which forces us to reflect upon ourselves as well. The movie has the perfect amount of emotions, making the plot very much impactful, and the correct amount of fun to keep the watcher hooked, entertained, and engaged. Even though I watched it recently, I can feel the pinch of nostalgia. This movie has got everything to make it work, to be honest. You are going to find yourself smiling at the end of the movie. Though there are some chances that you may figure out the plot but wait! It compensates a lot by being the cutest rom-com hahah.

I love this, and I found this kaafi relatable and you’re also going to, because, wait no, go watch and find it all by yourself? One hundred percent worth it! Okay, see-ya, going to re-watch this one right now!

Oh, how did I forget to share? You’re going to unlock a new crush lalalala Mark is a cutie for real. Okay tataaa!

Hope you also enjoy watching this!
