Jaane Tu… ya jaane na

A Bollywood rom-com starring Imran Khan as Jai Singh Rathore aka Rats and Genelia D’Souza, as Aditi Mahant aka Meow. This movie typically shows all the primary emotions a human could feel- from platonic love to romantic, from being delusional to figuring stuff out (including self-discovery), from so much confusion to finally coming out with a conclusion. You name it, you going to have it.

It is a very heartfelt, witty, delightful movie that captures the bittersweet essence of youth, the zany dimensions of friendship, and love. Amazingly directed by Abbas Tyrewala, and released in 2008, created magic with the characters which got a lot of appreciation, and love even today after almost two decades of release. The character played by Imran, and Genelia feels so real that you would end up wondering if it is happening in reel only, or if it is real. Completely, the acting is premium all around. And you are going to feel a sense of freshness even after all these years since the movie was released.

Also, here, in this movie, there’s a spectrum of characters that would help you to stay hooked with them, like, from Rotlu (fun lovable goofball) to Meghna (delulu is the solulu girl in the town) you going to meet them all at once. This movie captures a broad spectrum of relationships as well, with Ratna Pathak as Savitri Rathore with Naseeruddin Shah aka Amar Singh Rathore as her late husband in the movie who was Mughal, and lost his life on the battlefield, but here’s the catch, Ratna Pathak whispers a whole different story to Imran, his son in the movie about his late father and the reason of his death. The bond shared by Aditi and her brother who is fighting with her for her attention I mean? It is going to hurt your heart a little or maybe, more. Oh also, how come we are not going to talk about Meghna’s parents? God. Scary it is, and it gets scarier because of the way Meghna describes it to Jai before he meets them.

The story goes from ‘okay okay.. funny haha witty haha’ to ‘awww cute! oh dang, what’s gonna happen now? god help aaaaa- this is so nice feeling goood’. The way characters come, eat, serve, and leave no crumbs is definitely something to talk about. None of the characters feels as if they came just to fill the gap.

Things which I adore in the movie are- the friendship and how by the end they did find what they felt and wanted and what they didn’t. Knowing what you don’t want is as important as knowing what you do, plus having a bunch of people, who are going to stick by your side no matter what sounds really magical to me though. Having a group of friends in real would be cool though haha.

Wait! Aren’t we going to talk about the songs? Of course! From “Kabhi kabhi Aditi’ to “Pappu can’t dance saala” to “nazre milaana narze churaana”, the soundtracks got their charm. The movie, the plots, and the characters unfold themselves very beautifully, from the jolly bindaas side of Genelia to smooth simple peace-loving Imran. There is so much more to the movie than just the plots and characters, to be honest. I don’t have any complaints about the movie or any hashtag thoughts on agar ye hota to. I mean, the movie was released a long, long time ago, and I watched it just like a week ago, and even before watching the movie, just the mention of it used to bring a small giggle. I mean, it’s Imran Khan’s rom-com!

Also, the ending of the movie is just so filmy, as it should be hahaha. Regardless of how outlandish it may seem, the climax of “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na” works seamlessly, much like the majority of the film, largely due to the presence of Aditi. Genelia’s portrayal is simply electrifying, with her eyes ablaze and her smile irrepressible. She’s a force to be reckoned with, infusing the film with an energy, she effortlessly embodies her character, oscillating between being a wildcat and a soft-hearted soul, leaving an indelible impression on the audience. Director Abbas utilizes her talents to perfection and delivers a much-needed dose of charm and sincerity. Genelia aka Aditi ate it and left no crumbs.

Overall, a very feel-good movie it is, filled with humor, fun, and emotions. In the end, it’s all about the song you are going to sing, merrily, in front of numerous people with your not-so-perfect vocal cords.
